Writer-director Isabelle Czajka's
impressive and powerfully moving drama
explores the impact of the loss of a parent
in a teenager's life.
Seventeen-year-old Manu (sensational
new talent Anais Demoustier) is unable to
connect with her mother (Ariane
Ascaride), or get in touch with her own
grief after the death of her father (Bernard
Le Coq). Indeed, her mother seems eager
to move on, and even starts dating again,
but Manu's life is on auto-pilot.
Demoustier delivers a striking
performance as a teenager of few words
whose stoic exterior hides a shattered
interior of grief and loneliness, and who
must decide how to move forward in her
life. This haunting, intelligent and
understated film is a small jewel, marking
a major discovery in star and director.
